ESCAP's South and South-West Asia Office will host an Annual High-level Seminar on "The Future of World Economy and Globalization in the aftermath of Global Financial Crisis: Implications for Developing Economies", on 14 January 2014 in New Delhi. The High-level Seminar will feature a keynote address by Nobel Laureate Professor Joseph Stiglitz, also President, Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD), Columbia University.
Prof. Stiglitz has been the world's most cited economist since 2008. In 2009 he delivered ESCAP's first Distinguished Person's Lecture in Bangkok, and in 2011, was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
The High-level Seminar will be chaired by Mr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Government of India. The following eminent panelists will also participate in the Seminar: Prof. Deepak Nayyar, Professor Emeritus, Jawaharlal Nehru University; Prof. Andrew Sheng, President, Fund Global Institute; Prof. Jose Antonio Ocampo; Vice-President, IPD and former Under Secretary-General of the United Nations; and Prof. Kevin P Gallagher, Boston and Tufts Universities, United States.
The lecture will be attended policy makers, economists, media and representatives of diplomatic missions of ESCAP member States based in New Delhi.
